The Maschseefest in Hannover, touted by organizers as Germany’s largest lake festival, once again attracted massive crowds to the water this year.
The final day of this year’s Maschseefest was Sunday, and organizers reported that approximately 2.15 million guests attended the festival. This turnout left the organizers very satisfied.
Last year, only 1.7 million people visited the Maschsee in the heart of the state capital. The 2023 event was hampered by persistent rain, unlike this year, which was much sunnier, with an average of seven and a half hours of sunshine per day.
Highlight days with the most visitors
For 19 days, the festival featured concerts, shows, and talk sessions along the lakeshore. Restaurants served specialties from Syria, Mexico, Ireland, and many other countries. A new addition this year was a colorful drone show over the water. According to organizers, the most popular days were the first two Saturdays, with 220,000 and 230,000 visitors, respectively.
There were no major police incidents. Officers mainly dealt with minor incidents. “Even with higher visitor numbers than last year, we mostly handled simple cases of bodily harm and theft. Overall, we are pleased with the outcome,” said a police spokesperson. The next Maschseefest is set to begin on July 30 next year.
