On today, Wednesday, several schools across multiple federal states received bomb threats via email, affecting three schools in Saxony-Anhalt.
Students at the Integrated Comprehensive School (IGS) Regine Hildebrandt in Magdeburg and the primary schools Friederikenschule and Geschwister Scholl in Dessau-Roßlau were not allowed to enter their buildings this morning due to the bomb threats, according to a spokesperson from the Magdeburg police department.
Instead of children, bomb-sniffing dogs entered the Friederikenschule on Wednesday morning. Both primary schools had to evacuate students already inside the buildings when the threats were received. However, by 9:30 a.m., the police had given the all-clear.
In Magdeburg, the situation was resolved even faster. The police determined the threat lacked seriousness, allowing classes to resume by 9 a.m.
Nationwide impact
Bomb threats are currently disrupting school operations across Germany, with incidents also reported in Thuringia and Saxony. The common factor among these schools is that the threats were emailed and sometimes contained identical wording.
Whether these threats are part of a large-scale prank remains unconfirmed by the police.
