Daimler Truck, a major commercial vehicle manufacturer, has announced a significant leadership change. Karin Radström will become the new CEO of the DAX-listed company, marking a rare instance of a woman leading a top German corporation.
The supervisory board of Daimler Truck has appointed Karin Radström, 45, as the new chairwoman effective October 1, 2023. This announcement was made at the company’s headquarters in Leinfelden-Echterdingen near Stuttgart. Radström, who has been a member of the board since 2021, will succeed Martin Daum, 64, a long-time Daimler executive.
Daum will step down from his position prematurely, leaving the company on December 31, 2023, shortly before the end of his regular term. To ensure a smooth transition, he will retain responsibility for areas including Financial Services, Daimler Buses, and IT until his departure, continuing to serve as a board member during this period.
Radström’s background and responsibilities
Karin Radström, originally from Sweden, joined Daimler Truck’s board in 2021. In her new role as CEO, she will initially continue to oversee the Europe and Latin America regions, as well as the Mercedes-Benz Trucks brand, until a decision is made regarding her successor in these areas. Her new mandate as CEO will run until 2029.
Daimler Truck: A global leader in commercial vehicles
Daimler Truck is one of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, employing over 100,000 people globally. The company’s portfolio includes a wide range of vehicles, from light to heavy-duty trucks. In the United States, the group operates under well-known brands such as Freightliner and Western Star.
This leadership change at Daimler Truck represents a significant milestone, as Radström becomes one of the few women to lead a DAX-listed company in Germany. Her appointment reflects the ongoing shift towards greater diversity in top corporate leadership positions.
