A hybrid car fire in Aschaffenburg resulted in significant property damage, including to a residential building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite the extensive destruction.
In Aschaffenburg, Unterfranken, a fire involving a hybrid car has caused substantial damage, extending to a carport, another vehicle, and a residential building. According to a police statement, the blaze resulted in approximately €300,000 in damages. The fire affected the upper two floors of a multi-family house, rendering them temporarily uninhabitable. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the five residents are staying with neighbors for the time being.
Technical fault likely cause; firefighters tackle fire
The fire department had to remove the roof to locate and extinguish lingering hot spots. They also needed to cool the burnt hybrid vehicle over an extended period. A technical defect in the car is suspected to be the cause of the fire.
While electric vehicles occasionally make headlines for fires, the ADAC notes that the risk of fire for electric cars is not higher than for gasoline or diesel vehicles. However, they highlight that the effort required to extinguish a fire is greater, particularly when the high-voltage battery ignites.
