Opel significantly reduces the price of the Zafira Electric to boost its presence in the slow-moving German electric car market, offering various configurations and additional cost options.
The electric car market in Germany has been slow to gain momentum. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, 273,736 electric vehicles were registered nationwide in the first half of the year. This is the lowest figure since 2020. In comparison, in the past three years, the first six months consistently saw around or more than 300,000 registrations.
In response to this trend, Opel appears to be countering with a price reduction. The Zafira Electric is now available at a base price of €47,550. According to the e-car portal insideevs.de, this makes the van about €15,000 cheaper than before. Previously, the Zafira Life Electric M with the same powertrain started at €63,250.
Opel cuts electric car prices: Van available with two different batteries
This refers to a 50-kWh battery. The Zafira is also available with a 75-kWh battery, with a base price of €53,550. The GS models are slightly more expensive: the version with the smaller battery starts at €55,100, and the one with the larger battery at €61,100. The motor delivers 136 horsepower.
According to the report, the lower base price was made possible by a stripped-down standard equipment. The seats no longer come with leather upholstery as standard. The front seats no longer have electric adjustment, and the seats in the other rows are no longer adjustable. In the base version, the Zafira Electric’s tires are equipped with steel instead of alloy wheels, and the sliding doors must be operated manually.
Only the GS version includes standard features such as blind spot warning and a navigation system. The same goes for seat and steering wheel heating, as well as dual-zone climate control with an additional rear air conditioner. The base version no longer offers a keyless entry system or a rearview camera. These extras are only available at an additional cost.
Opel Zafira Electric: Upgraded version covers longer distances
According to Opel, the Zafira Electric offers between six and nine seats, with a roof load capacity of 150 kilograms, considering the permissible total weight. The maximum drawbar load is specified at 60 kilograms for all variants. In terms of towing capacity, the Opel Zafira Electric can tow up to 750 kilograms unbraked and 1,000 kilograms braked at a 12% gradient.
The 50-kWh battery is said to give the van a maximum range of 220 kilometers, which would allow a trip from Munich to Lake Constance. The Zafira with the 75-kWh battery can reportedly travel up to 347 kilometers, covering the distance from Munich to Freiburg or Klagenfurt. Previously, the maximum distances were 207 and 301 kilometers, respectively. The top speed is 130 km/h.
Opel Zafira Electric at new price: Additional costs for different colors or seat covers
Surcharges on the base price already apply if a color other than Kaolin White is chosen. Carbon Black, Mercury Gray, Kapari Green, or Contrast Gray each cost an extra €900. Higher-quality seat covers are also more expensive: as part of the Family Package, fabric Rimini Gray is available instead of fabric Meltem Gray for an additional €1,100.
A converter package with reinforced onboard electronics and pre-installation for a trailer hitch requires an extra €250. The Drive Assist Package, which includes adaptive cruise control ACC with Stop&Go, a heated multifunction leather steering wheel, and an electric parking brake, costs €600.
