On Friday evening, world star Adele performed the first of her ten concerts at the Munich fairgrounds. One song moved her to tears.
Adele jokes continuously, following each joke with another hit. Whether or not you’re an Adele fan, songs like “Rumour Has It,” “When We Were Young,” or “Hello” are familiar to almost everyone. Both her audience and the singer herself enjoy the performance. However, towards the end of her first concert in Munich, Adele becomes unexpectedly emotional.
“I wrote this song when I was 21, and I wish someone had told me back then that I would play it in front of so many people and laugh,” Adele tells the audience. As she speaks, her voice breaks. She swallows, trying her best to hold back her emotions. But then the first tears start to fall.
She shares with her fans that she was in a depression when she wrote this song. “I’ve now accepted it as a part of me,” the English singer confides. She swallows hard. “I never thought I would laugh while singing this song,” Adele continues. Sharing it with such a large audience makes her very happy.
Singing with the audience
Then Adele begins the first lines of the song that brings her to tears, until she reaches the chorus: “Never mind, I’ll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too,” she sings. The audience cheers and sings along as loudly as they can.
Adele doesn’t want to miss this moment and even removes her in-ear monitors—earplugs with micro-speakers—so she can hear her fans singing the lyrics. After the final notes of her song “Someone Like You,” released in 2011, fade away, Adele beams with joy. “Thank you for allowing me to be here and for all of you being here for me tonight.”
