Recently, the Brandenburg Ministry of Finance released data on the distribution of millionaires in the state. While the exact identities of these wealthy individuals are not known, the data provides insights into the regional distribution.

According to the Brandenburg Ministry, there were 367 income millionaires in 2019, the last completed tax year. Collectively, they earned just under one billion euros, specifically €982,308,918. However, the distribution of high earners across the state is highly uneven. Here’s a look at the top incomes by region.

Three richest individuals live in the state capital

The richest person in Brandenburg resides in the state capital, Potsdam. With an annual income of approximately €123,531,000, this multimillionaire earns an average of €338,441 per day. For comparison, the average annual income in Brandenburg in 2019 was around €21,560. The second and third highest earners also live in Potsdam.

The second wealthiest person lives in the Oder-Spree district, with an income of €21,543,080. The third position goes to Barnim, where the highest income is only €11,692,000 compared to other regions. In the remaining parts of Brandenburg, the highest incomes range between €1.2 million and €10.6 million.

Prominent figures and millionaire statistics

When comparing the number of income millionaires per district, a different ranking emerges. According to the Ministry of Finance, the most high earners pay their taxes in the city of Potsdam, with 69 individuals reported in 2019.

The region is popular among politicians. Chancellor Olaf Scholz from the SPD, Green Party Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, and Federal Minister for Building Klara Geywitz, also from the SPD, all reside there. Additionally, 79-year-old Hasso Plattner, founder of the Barberini Museum, also lives in Potsdam.

In 2019, 67 individuals in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district earned more than one million euros, and the Oberhavel district follows with 37 millionaires. The lowest number of millionaires is found in Frankfurt (Oder), where only one income millionaire resides.

The Ministry’s data also indicates that more millionaires live in the Berlin metropolitan area than in the periphery. According to “B.Z.,” Glienicke (Nordbahn) and Hohen Neuendorf are particularly preferred residential areas for high earners.
