A Bremen couple has found unexpected fame after a video of them sharing their unique love story went viral on Instagram. The clip, filmed during their honeymoon in Paris by a British street photographer, has now been viewed by over 33 million people.
In the video, former teacher Elke recounts how she met her partner, Ingo, in 2018 through a newspaper ad: “Hundreds responded, and he was one of them.” Their first meeting was a success, and they quickly realized they had a natural connection. “We felt comfortable talking to each other. There was no need to impress or show off; it was just relaxed and normal,” Elke recalls.
After a few dates, Ingo, a former architect from Hamburg, moved to Bremen, initially to his own apartment. Not long after, the couple moved into a typical Bremen house together.
Coping with sudden internet fame
The video, shared by photographer Christopher Ward on Instagram, quickly became a viral sensation, garnering over two million likes. Comments poured in, with many users expressing their admiration for the couple’s romance. “They are so sweet, I can’t handle it!” wrote one user, while another commented, “You are the hope and goodness in the world. I wish you all the best and thank you for your beautiful story.”
Even the Instagram account of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung,” where the couple first connected through the classifieds section, chimed in, saying, “We are thrilled to have played a small part in bringing people together.”
However, the sudden fame has been somewhat overwhelming for the couple. Speaking to the local news portal “Buten un Binnen,” the newlywed bride shared her thoughts on the unexpected attention: “It has reached a point where I no longer have control over it.” The couple has even started being recognized and approached on the street.
Despite the media frenzy, the couple remains focused on enjoying their life together. Ingo reflects on their relationship, saying, “I’ve learned from Elke that you should celebrate a lot.” Elke adds with a smile, “And enjoy each other!” They plan to continue living by this motto, away from the cameras and the online hype.
