A holiday flight to Greece made an unscheduled stop in Munich due to a disruptive passenger. The intoxicated British tourist’s behavior escalated from verbal abuse to physical aggression, leading to his arrest.
Turbulence triggers troublesome behavior
An EasyJet flight (EZY8235) departing from Gatwick to Kos on Tuesday afternoon encountered unexpected turbulence, which sparked a series of alarming incidents. According to reports from The Sun and other sources, a drunk passenger began cursing and claimed the pilot was incompetent, declaring he would take over the controls himself.
The situation worsened when the man, who had already consumed a significant amount of whiskey, was denied further alcoholic beverages. The Bild newspaper reported that flight attendants repeatedly refused to serve him beer, prompting him to chase them through the aircraft aisle. He allegedly slapped one stewardess on the head with an open hand and threw his baseball cap at another.
Escalation leads to emergency landing
The passenger’s behavior continued to escalate dangerously. When the flight attendants attempted to inform the pilot of the situation via the onboard phone, the man angrily ripped the device from its mount. Both The Sun and aviation blogger “A Fly Guy’s Cabin Crew Lounge” reported that the unruly passenger tried to open the emergency exit at a cruising altitude of 11,000 meters (36,000 feet).
These actions compelled the pilot to divert the flight to Munich. Upon landing, police officers forcibly removed the intoxicated man from the aircraft amid applause from fellow passengers. The man reportedly resisted arrest vigorously.
Legal consequences and investigation
The disruptive passenger is now facing multiple charges, including assault, property damage, and resisting law enforcement officers. He was temporarily detained in Munich while authorities initiated their investigation into the incident.
