Elton John, the legendary musician, is recovering from a serious eye infection. The 77-year-old star recently shared an update on his condition and the lengthy healing process with his fans.
Elton John, one of the greatest music stars of our time, announced his retirement from the stage in 2019 after more than 50 years in show business and over 450 million albums sold. His farewell tour, “Farewell Yellow Brick Road,” began shortly after and continued until last year, delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 77-year-old artist has ruled out a comeback, stating his desire to focus entirely on family life with husband David Furnish and their two sons, Zachary and Elijah. However, this isn’t the only reason for ending his career; Elton John has faced various health issues in recent years.
The long road to recovery
In a recent Instagram post, Elton John revealed his latest health setback: a severe infection that has “unfortunately led to limited vision in one eye.” The singer reported that he has been struggling with this condition for weeks but is now on the path to recovery. He described it as an “extremely slow healing process,” adding that it will take some time before he regains sight in the affected eye.
“I am so grateful for the outstanding team of doctors and nurses and my family who have taken such good care of me over the past few weeks,” Elton John wrote. He spent the summer quietly at home to recover and remains “optimistic about the progress I’ve made so far in my healing and recovery.”
This recent health issue follows a series of setbacks for the music icon. About a year ago, he fell at his villa in the South of France and had to spend a night in the hospital. In 2021, a fall had more severe consequences, requiring surgery and leaving him struggling with hip problems and intense pain. Since then, the British star has been seen using mobility aids such as a cane or even a wheelchair.
