Former Austrian footballer Stefan Stangl, who once played for the national team, is now in jail in Germany. He was convicted of serious fraud earlier this year and faces further legal troubles.
Stefan Stangl, who played for top clubs like Red Bull Salzburg, Rapid Wien, and Sturm Graz, as well as the Austrian national team, now finds himself behind bars in Germany. The 32-year-old was sentenced in February this year for serious fraud, according to a report by the “Krone” newspaper.
Stangl, once a left-back on the field, reportedly promised a friend to sell a €50,000 watch for a profit. However, this transaction did not occur as promised. As a first-time offender with no prior criminal record, Stangl received a ten-month suspended sentence.
In July, Stangl’s legal troubles deepened. According to the newspaper “Krone,” he was arrested again after allegedly borrowing money from several individuals with the promise of profitable investments. When these investors did not receive their money back, authorities acted. He was arrested at an airport in Germany at the end of July and has since been held in extradition custody.
