On Friday night, a man is alleged to have stabbed his 28-year-old ex-partner in Friedrichsfelde. This marks the second fatal case of domestic violence in Berlin within a week.
Late on Friday evening, a 28-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in her apartment in the Friedrichsfelde district. Emergency services discovered the critically injured woman in the hallway of the multi-family building on Dolgenseestraße around 10:30 PM, according to the public prosecutor’s office and police. Rescue workers transported her to a hospital while performing resuscitation, but she died shortly thereafter, as reported by the newspaper “Bild.”
Deceased woman was mother of two children
Shortly after the incident, authorities arrested a 45-year-old suspect near the Rummelsburg S-Bahn station. This man is identified as the woman’s former partner, according to Sebastian Büchner, spokesperson for the Berlin public prosecutor’s office, who spoke to dpa.
The man is accused of attacking the 28-year-old with a knife and stabbing her multiple times. There are indications of domestic violence within the relationship, said Büchner. The 45-year-old is in police custody. The deceased woman had two children from a previous relationship who were not present at the crime scene.
Arrest warrant issued against 45-year-old ex-partner
A judge has issued an arrest warrant for the 45-year-old, as requested by the public prosecutor’s office, according to a statement on the online platform X. The suspect is currently in pre-trial detention. A spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office could not initially provide information about the suspect’s nationality. A murder commission and the Berlin public prosecutor’s office are investigating the case.
Another case occurred just days earlier
Just on Wednesday evening, a woman was killed with a knife on a street in the Berlin district of Zehlendorf, allegedly by her ex-husband. The 36-year-old woman was a mother of four children. The 50-year-old man has been in pre-trial detention since then. According to the Attorney General’s office, an arrest warrant for murder with a motive of base motives has been issued.
The police suspect that the incident is a case of femicide. Femicide refers to the killing of women because of their gender—essentially, because they are women. The most common form is the killing of women by partners or ex-partners. The news agency dpa reports that there were multiple instances of domestic violence against the woman by the man during their marriage.
The woman had eventually separated and obtained a court-issued protection order and a restraining order. This meant that her ex-husband was prohibited from approaching or contacting her and was required to maintain a specified distance.
