A train attendant was brutally attacked by a passenger without a valid ticket on an ICE train traveling from Berlin to Munich. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, October 2, between Berlin Central Station and Jüterbog in Brandenburg, leaving the attendant with facial injuries.
Violent altercation over ticket dispute
The violent altercation took place around 6:40 p.m. on an Intercity Express (ICE) train, according to a press release from the Federal Police Directorate in Berlin. The train attendant had asked a 25-year-old man to leave the first-class section after discovering he did not have a valid ticket. After he complied, the attendant attempted to resolve the situation with him. However, the situation quickly escalated, and the man repeatedly punched her in the face with his fist.
The police reported that during the attack, which occurred between Berlin Central Station and Jüterbog, the man also attempted to knee the attendant, but she managed to fend off the blow and called for help.
Witnesses intervene to stop the assault
Several passengers witnessed the brutal assault and intervened, holding the man until Brandenburg police officers arrived at Jüterbog station, where the suspect was arrested. According to the police, the man resisted arrest and had to be handcuffed due to his aggressive behavior. He was then handed over to the Federal Police.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the suspect for assault and fare evasion. Video footage of the incident, recorded by witnesses, has been secured as evidence. Additionally, the Brandenburg police have opened a separate investigation into the man’s resistance against law enforcement officers.
Attendant treated for facial injuries
The train attendant suffered from swelling and bruising on her face as a result of the attack. A medical team treated her at the scene. The suspect is reportedly known to the police for previous violent offenses. Due to his criminal history, the public prosecutor’s office decided to bring him before a magistrate at the Potsdam District Court, where he was placed in pre-trial detention.
