The tragic event occurred around 3 AM on Monday near the Jüchen exit of the A46 motorway. According to the Cologne City Gazette, a minor traffic accident preceded the attack. The victim, a 20-year-old man from Grevenbroich, got into an argument with the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision. The dispute escalated, resulting in the young man being stabbed with a knife. He died at the scene.

The suspect, identified as a 25-year-old Turkish national from the Heinsberg district, was arrested after the victim’s passenger managed to memorize the license plate of the attacker’s vehicle. An arrest warrant for manslaughter has been issued against the suspect, as confirmed by the police in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss on Thursday.

Community response and ongoing investigation

The victim was reportedly a Muslim man and a former student of a comprehensive school in Grevenbroich. Representatives of a local mosque shared the news of his death on Facebook, announcing plans for a funeral prayer service with the date and time to be confirmed later.

The community’s response to the tragic event has been one of shock and grief. One Facebook user commented, “It’s simply insane to tear such a young person out of life over such a trivial matter.” The mosque’s post was shared multiple times and received hundreds of comments expressing condolences and disbelief.

As the investigation continues, police have stated that the background, prior relationship between the alleged perpetrator and victim, and the motive for the crime remain unclear. The case has been characterized as an “aggression offense in road traffic,” highlighting the dangerous escalation of what began as a minor traffic incident.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of road rage and the importance of maintaining composure in traffic situations.
