A fire broke out at the “Vegan Butcher’s Shop” in Dresden on Tuesday evening, damaging office spaces and production areas. The owner has expressed shock and gratitude for the quick response from neighbors and firefighters.

On Tuesday evening, a fire broke out at the “Vegan Butcher Shop” in Dresden-Striesen. According to police reports, the fire started around 7 p.m. in the area of a cooling unit outside the building on Krenkelstraße. The flames quickly spread to parts of the building, causing significant damage.

The owners confirmed on social media that the fire had damaged their office spaces and parts of their production area. “The entire main cooling storage is gone,” said Managing Director Nils Steiger to the newspaper “Sächsische Zeitung.” Most of their stock could not be saved. “We have a second small cooling storage that we are now filling to the brim with everything we can salvage,” Steiger added.

Police investigation and community reaction

“Of course, it was a shock for all of us,” the company stated online. They expressed gratitude for the quick reactions from the residents and the fire department. Restoring the damaged areas and resuming production will take significant effort, time, and money. “As a result, there may be delays in your orders and longer response times in customer service in the coming days and weeks,” the company warned in the statement.

No one was injured in the fire, and the police have started an investigation. The exact amount of damage is still unknown.

The “Vegan Butcher Shop,” which opened in January last year, has been a controversial establishment from the start. Many locals were bothered by its name, questioning why the Dresden shop wasn’t called a “Flower Shop” or “Vegetable Shop” instead. Steiger mentioned that they received hundreds of hate emails daily after opening. The name was meant to be a “deliberate provocation.” Despite this, Steiger and his team have found success, and in March, they announced plans to expand to other major German cities.
