More people than ever before in Germany have assets of one billion euros or more. Nevertheless, some billionaires lost a lot of money last year.

Germany has more billionaires than ever before – 249 in total. This was the result of an analysis by “Manager Magazine”. Last year the figure was 226, in 2001 it was 69.

The richest German is Lidl founder Dieter Schwarz, whose fortune is estimated by “Manager Magazine” at almost 44 billion euros. According to this calculation, Schwarz increased his fortune by more than four billion euros last year.
