Ikea is set to launch a new line of furniture designed to simplify assembly, eliminating the need for screws and tools. The “Turbo furniture” is expected to hit the market later this week.
According to an exclusive report by the newspaper “Bild,” these innovative pieces will be assembled using only plug-in connections rather than traditional screws. The furniture components will no longer be sold individually but rather pre-folded, similar to a craft kit.
The new system allows users to unfold and connect the pieces at home using specialized connectors, significantly cutting down on assembly time. For example, the assembly time for the basic “Pax” wardrobe model is expected to decrease from one hour to just 20 minutes. Additionally, only one person will be needed for assembly instead of two.
Simplified disassembly and durability improvements
Walter Kadnar, Ikea’s Germany CEO, told “Bild” that the new system could potentially reduce assembly time even further. He also highlighted that disassembling the furniture would now be easier and cause less wear and tear. Frequent disassembly and reassembly of Ikea furniture can often lead to damage, rendering it unusable.
The new “Turbo furniture” line will go on sale in Germany this week, starting with the “Pax” wardrobe featuring the new plug-in system. Despite the upgrades, the prices will remain unchanged. Kadnar promotes the new line with claims of “improved quality, greater durability,” and a “record-breaking assembly time.”
