Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are ending their marriage just over two years after tying the knot. Lopez officially filed for divorce on their second wedding anniversary.
Jennifer Lopez, 55, and Ben Affleck, 52, have decided to part ways after more than two years of marriage. According to multiple US media reports, Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday (local time) at the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The official separation date is listed as April 26, according to a report by “Variety.”
The couple, who rekindled their relationship after nearly two decades apart, first married in July 2022 in a Las Vegas ceremony. They had previously dated many years ago but reunited and remarried on August 20, 2022, in a grand ceremony in Georgia—exactly two years before Lopez filed for divorce.
Divorce details and financial implications
According to the US entertainment website TMZ, Lopez filed the divorce papers herself, without legal representation. The report also indicates that there is no mention of a prenuptial agreement in the filing. If no prenuptial agreement exists, the income earned by both parties during their marriage could be considered joint property.
Lopez is reportedly waiving any request for spousal support and expects the same from Affleck. The couple’s shared home is expected to be sold, with Lopez already searching for a new place to live, while Affleck has reportedly moved out.
Background and past relationships
Both Lopez and Affleck are highly successful in the entertainment industry. Lopez is also a world-renowned singer, and the two have appeared in several films over the years. However, they only worked together on screen twice in the early 2000s: in Martin Brest’s romantic comedy “Gigli” in 2003 and Kevin Smith’s comedy “Jersey Girl” in 2004.
Lopez had been married three times before her union with Affleck and has twins from her marriage to singer Marc Anthony. Affleck was previously married to actress Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018, with whom he has three children.
