A witness involved in recent explosive attacks in Cologne has been found dead. The 53-year-old man, who was slightly injured in a previous bombing, was discovered beneath a railway bridge in Cologne-Buchforst.
Police investigate possible suicide
Police reported finding the body on Wednesday afternoon. According to officials, preliminary investigations, including initial interviews, on-site examination, and a search of the victim’s residence, suggest the man jumped from the bridge. “No evidence of third-party involvement” has been found so far. The deceased was identified as the cleaning staff member who sustained minor injuries during the bombing at the “Vanity” club entrance in downtown Cologne on September 16. Currently, investigators see no apparent connection between his death and “previous findings regarding the background of the attacks.” Nevertheless, investigations continue, and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Dutch mafia suspected in bombing series
An 80-member investigative team, codenamed “Fusion,” is working on the case of multiple explosions that have been disturbing Cologne and its surroundings for several weeks. Authorities suspect the Dutch mafia’s involvement in these incidents. The police have reported 13 arrests and have identified 33 suspects in connection with the explosions, shootings, and hostage situations.
Separate incident linked to family dispute
In late September, another explosive device detonated in a Cologne café. However, North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul indicated that this incident was likely related to family matters and not connected to the attacks in downtown Cologne. This explosion adds to the series of violent incidents that have recently troubled the city, though with apparently different motivations.
