After 14 years together, Maria Höfl-Riesch, Germany’s most successful alpine skier, and her husband Marcus Höfl, a renowned sports manager, have announced their separation.
Three-time Olympic alpine skiing champion Maria Höfl-Riesch and her husband Marcus Höfl have publicly announced their separation on social media. The couple shared that after careful consideration and with heavy hearts, they have decided to go their separate ways privately. “Unfortunately, our lives have drifted too far apart, but we will remain connected both professionally and as friends,” wrote the 39-year-old Höfl-Riesch on behalf of both of them. “We had wonderful times together and will always cherish these memories.” Marcus Höfl, 50, also shared the post on his social media accounts.
Met in the sports industry in 2010
Höfl-Riesch, a two-time world champion, and Marcus Höfl made their relationship public in the spring of 2010 after initially meeting on a professional level when he became her manager. Marcus Höfl, a well-known sports manager, has also advised the late football legend Franz Beckenbauer and counts basketball world champion Dennis Schröder among his clients.
The couple celebrated their civil wedding in Höfl-Riesch’s hometown of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, followed by a church ceremony in April 2011 at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser in Going, attended by around 200 guests, including Beckenbauer and other prominent sports figures.
Shared successes
Together, they celebrated Höfl-Riesch’s sporting triumphs, including her Olympic victories in 2010 in Vancouver (super combined and slalom) and 2014 in Sochi (super combined), as well as her 2013 World Championship gold in the super combined. With ten Olympic and World Championship medals, Höfl-Riesch is the most successful German alpine skier.
