Masked assailants impersonating police officers attacked and injured four men in Limburg. The suspects are now being sought by authorities.
In a scene reminiscent of a police thriller, four men aged between 28 and 34 were attacked on a sports field in Limburg’s Linter district early Tuesday morning, TAG24 reports. The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. when at least seven masked men armed with pepper spray and golf clubs arrived in two black SUVs and another vehicle, posing as criminal investigators.
According to a police spokesperson, the attackers forced the victims to lie on the ground and then brutally assaulted them with golf clubs and pepper spray, causing some serious injuries. The assailants then fled in their vehicles towards B417.
Immediate response and ongoing investigation
Witnesses observed the assault and alerted the police. However, by the time officers arrived, both the attackers and the victims had disappeared. The only evidence left at the scene was a broken golf club, which was secured by the police.
Shortly after, the emergency dispatch center reported finding three injured individuals on Franz-Schubert-Straße. These three men were among the victims of the attack. They received medical attention at the scene before being transported to hospitals.
Search efforts and appeal for witnesses
A search for the suspects was launched, including the deployment of a police helicopter, but so far, it has been unsuccessful.
Investigations are ongoing, particularly to understand the motives behind the attack. The police are appealing for any additional witnesses to come forward with information, which can be reported to the criminal investigation department at 06431/91400.
