Nicola Cavanis, the 25-year-old model and girlfriend of footballer Mats Hummels, has opened up about her personal life in a way that fans rarely see. In the podcast “Unter Uns Gesagt,” she shares insights into her childhood dreams, how she handles life in the spotlight, and her enduring love for children.

Mats Hummels’ girlfriend more open than ever: “I love babies”.

A childhood dream of becoming a midwife

Nicola’s journey to fame began early. At just 12 years old, she posted on Instagram, long before the platform became mainstream. Today, nearly 2 million followers keep up with the Bavarian beauty, who regularly offers glimpses into her glamorous life, including photoshoots with luxury brands like Dior Beauty. However, modeling wasn’t always her dream. “I wanted to become a midwife. I love babies and taking care of them. I could do that all day,” Nicola revealed during the podcast.

Early setbacks in modeling

Nicola’s path to becoming a midwife was delayed because training for the profession was only available at 18. Instead, she chose to pursue an apprenticeship as an insurance clerk at her father’s company. “I lived at home and saved all the money I earned so that I could eventually pursue my dream of modeling,” she shared. However, her parents insisted she complete her apprenticeship first. “I was about 18 or 19 when I really started to pursue modeling.”

But success didn’t come easily. “I had a casting for an agency in America when I was 19, and they told me I looked good but needed to lose weight around my hips.” Although such comments hurt at the time, Nicola has since learned not to take them to heart. “Eventually, I decided not to let it get to me and thought, either they like me as I am, or it’s not a good fit.” This newfound confidence eventually led to her big break in the modeling world.

Staying grounded and holding onto her true dream

Despite her career in the spotlight, Nicola confessed that she doesn’t naturally enjoy being the center of attention. “I’m actually someone who doesn’t want to stand out. I know that seems at odds with my job, but I often play a role. That’s not the real Nicola,” she explained. The real Nicola is only seen by her closest friends and her new boyfriend, footballer Mats Hummels, or her childhood friends from her village. “I like that they have nothing to do with all of this and still see me as the person I used to be.”

Even with her success in modeling, Nicola remains down-to-earth. She hasn’t given up on her original dream and hopes that one day, when her own children are older, she might still pursue her passion for becoming a midwife.
