A 37-year-old mountaineer has tragically died after falling during a descent in the Bavarian Alps. The accident was caused by a slippery root, leading to a fatal 60-meter drop.
On Sunday morning, a 37-year-old mountaineer from the district of Freising died after a tragic fall in the Berchtesgaden Alps. According to the police, the man was part of a group descending from the Untersberg mountain when he slipped on a rain-soaked root. He subsequently fell approximately 60 meters, plummeting over partially vertical terrain. The fall caused instant fatal injuries.
Immediate but unsuccessful rescue efforts
One of the man’s companions immediately called for emergency help, while another group member descended to attempt resuscitation. However, when the emergency doctor arrived on the scene via rescue helicopter, they could only confirm the mountaineer’s death.
Two other members of the group were so severely shocked by the incident that they were unable to descend the mountain on their own. The local mountain rescue service, with the assistance of a police helicopter, had to evacuate them from the site.
This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the dangers that even experienced mountaineers face, particularly in challenging weather conditions.
