More than two years after a rape occurred in a car in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg, new leads have recently been received by the police.
Several individuals contacted the police following the broadcast of the case on the ZDF show “Case number XY … unsolved,” a police spokesperson in Hamburg said. The exact number of tips received could not be disclosed, nor was it clear if any of the leads are significant. “We will work through the tips gradually,” the spokesperson added. The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
In late May 2022, shortly after 11 p.m., a man entered the woman’s car. She had parked in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg and was waiting for a friend. The suspect, described as being about 30 years old, allegedly assaulted and threatened her, according to a police statement at the time.
The mother of two had to drive to a nearby parking lot, where the suspect is said to have forced her into sexual acts. The man then fled the scene.
Did the perpetrator flee on a bicycle?
A immediate search by the police was unsuccessful. The woman sustained injuries to her head and upper body.
According to the ZDF show, the attacker appeared insecure during the assault and apologized. Investigators believe he may be living a double life.
It is possible that he lives near the crime scene or is a truck driver, as there is a highway and rest stop nearby.
There are indications that the attacker may have fled on a bicycle after the assault, based on a witness’s statement.
