In February 2022, Panagiota Petridou became a mother for the first time. Despite facing criticism, the TV presenter continues to breastfeed her child, undeterred by public opinion.
Panagiota Petridou rose to fame in 2010 with the show “Biete Rostlaube, suche Traumauto” and remained a prominent figure on the popular Vox program for eleven years. She also appeared in various other TV shows, establishing herself in the German television industry. On Instagram, she has nearly 300,000 followers who get a glimpse into her daily life.
However, one aspect of her life that the 45-year-old managed to keep private was her pregnancy. She announced the birth of her first child in February 2022, weeks after the event. Petridou rarely shares pictures of her child on social media, making an exception in March, which sparked controversy.
Continuing to breastfeed at two and a half years
The video Petridou shared in March showed her breastfeeding in various situations. The post received criticism because her child was 25 months old at the time, an age many consider too old for breastfeeding.
Despite the backlash, Petridou remains unfazed. “I still breastfeed,” she said in an interview with “Bunte,” expressing her strong support for breastfeeding. “I can only recommend it to everyone,” said the mother of a now two-and-a-half-year-old child.
Petridou acknowledges that comments and criticism are part of being in the public eye. “There will always be someone who gets upset about something. You can’t prevent it, you can only accept it,” she said with a shrug. Since becoming a mother, she has refrained from giving advice to other parents, understanding how it feels to be on the receiving end.
In a previous post, Petridou addressed her social media followers with a message of tolerance: “Everyone should do what they like, can, and want. I don’t care what anyone does with their baby. (…) I believe we should focus on what’s essential: happy and content children with happy moms.”
