A police operation at Ebertplatz in Cologne turned chaotic on Monday evening. What began as a response to a couple’s public intimacy quickly escalated, resulting in a police officer being bitten by a dog.
Police intervention over public indecency
On Monday evening, September 9, a police intervention at Ebertplatz took an unexpected turn. According to a police spokesperson, the officers initially responded to an incident involving a man who was suspected of “public indecency.” This charge typically refers to sexual acts in public spaces. The man was reportedly with a female companion, and the two had allegedly been engaging in intimate behavior at the square.
When officers attempted to take the man into custody for his actions, the situation worsened. The man’s dog suddenly attacked one of the officers, biting him on the leg. The extent of the officer’s injuries remained unclear as of Monday evening. “The dog likely wanted to protect its owner,” explained the police spokesperson.
Eyewitness accounts and escalating tensions
A witness at the scene told t-online that the dog owner appeared to be a homeless man. The witness also reported that approximately 60 police officers were deployed to the scene. The situation intensified when officers aimed their firearms at the leashed dog, which contributed to the escalation of events. Additionally, the witness mentioned the use of a taser during the altercation. However, these details could not be confirmed by authorities on Monday evening.
