The beloved Essen restaurant “Schiffers im alten Löwen” is set to close by the end of the year. In the meantime, guests will face an additional change: the restaurant will stop offering lunch service.
The owners of “Schiffers im alten Löwen,” located in Essen-Werden, announced back in August that the restaurant would close at the end of the year. However, for those wishing to visit before its closure, there is now another restriction to consider: the lunch menu will be discontinued starting mid-October. This new development was also shared on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
“Due to staffing issues, we have to stop offering our lunch service starting in mid-October. It wasn’t planned, but… it is what it is,” the post read. Friday, October 11, will be the last day the restaurant serves lunch, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. “After that, our business in this old building will only continue with evening service, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays,” the owners added.
Final days for the restaurant’s loyal customers
The closure of “Schiffers im alten Löwen” is disappointing news for its many loyal patrons, and the cessation of lunch service is another blow. However, there is a silver lining for fans of the restaurant’s food. In the same Facebook post, the owners revealed their future plans: “Starting February 2025, we’ll be offering our popular schnitzels, really good fries, and other tasty snack dishes at the former ‘Frittenschmiede’ in Heidhausen. We’re not gone, just moving. Maybe we’ll see you again for lunch then?”
For now, guests will need to settle for the restaurant’s evening offerings, which will be available from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. The kitchen will operate until 10 p.m., but only from Thursday to Saturday. The restaurant will remain closed on Sundays and Mondays.
