In several German states, enhanced speed enforcement measures are underway until the weekend. This initiative aims to improve road safety and raise awareness about traffic dangers.

Speed checks to target accident-prone areas

From Monday to Sunday, multiple German states are conducting intensified speed checks, focusing on accident-prone areas and locations with higher risk, such as school zones. According to the ADAC (German Automobile Club), only Bavaria, Bremen, and Saarland are not participating in this coordinated effort.

A spokesperson from North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Ministry emphasized that the primary goal of this control week is to sensitize all road users to traffic dangers. Excessive speed and inappropriate driving in adverse conditions, such as heavy rain, remain leading causes of accidents. Police officers will also be vigilant about driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

European coordination and school start considerations

The initiative stems from a coordinated effort by a European traffic police network. Unlike a similar action in April, there won’t be a specific “speed camera day” this time. Instead, the ADAC reports that controls will be distributed “with relatively uniform intensity throughout the entire week.”

In states where schools are reopening, such as Saxony-Anhalt, Lower Saxony, Saxony, and Bremen, police will increase their presence. The Interior Ministry of Saxony-Anhalt announced planned focus actions during the week, aiming to ensure greater safety. In recent months, there have already been several multi-day intensified control periods.

Officers will pay particular attention to distracted driving, excessive speeds, and technical defects in vehicles. This comprehensive approach underscores the authorities’ commitment to reducing traffic accidents and promoting responsible driving behavior across Germany.
