A tragic incident unfolded in Berlin-Spandau as a 3-year-old child was found dead in an apartment. The 42-year-old mother has been arrested as the primary suspect.
Child’s death shocks Berlin neighborhood
In the early hours of the morning, residents of an apartment building in Päwesiner Weg, Berlin-Spandau, were startled by loud noises coming from a ground floor apartment. They observed objects being thrown out of the apartment and promptly alerted the police at around 3:50 AM.
Upon arrival, police officers had to forcibly enter the apartment. Inside, they discovered a lifeless 3-year-old child in the presence of the mother. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by the police and a summoned doctor, the child could not be saved.
Mother arrested on suspicion of homicide
The Berlin police and public prosecutor’s office have announced that they are investigating the incident as a suspected homicide. The 42-year-old mother, who was present at the scene, has been arrested as the primary suspect.
Due to the circumstances in which the child was found, investigators are treating the case as a homicide. An autopsy of the child’s body has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
As of Sunday, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office was unable to confirm whether the victim was a boy or a girl. More information about the case is expected to be released later in the day.
