Iran has summoned the German ambassador in response to recent diplomatic differences. This action follows Germany’s own diplomatic protest against Iran’s attack on Israel earlier in the week.
Diplomatic exchanges intensify
According to the state news agency Irna, Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned both the new German ambassador, Markus Potzel, and the head of the Austrian mission in separate meetings in Tehran. The summoning of an ambassador is considered a strong diplomatic measure, signaling serious concerns or disagreements between nations.
On Wednesday, Germany had summoned the Iranian ambassador to the Foreign Office as a consequence of Iran’s attack on Israel. Since the Iranian ambassador was not in the city at the time, German officials conveyed their message to the embassy’s chargé d’affaires instead, stating that the German government condemns the attack in the strongest possible terms.
