The Kripo in Regensburg is working tirelessly to solve a sexual assault case involving a masked perpetrator. DNA evidence collected at the scene could be the key to identifying the suspect who attacked a 19-year-old woman in her home.

Assault in Frankenstraße: Masked assailant still at large

A man broke into the bedroom of a young woman in Regensburg through an open window, intending to assault her. The incident occurred in early June on Frankenstraße, where a 19-year-old became the victim of a sexual assault. The perpetrator, who wore a skull mask, remains unidentified two months later but left significant evidence at the crime scene. The authorities are keeping specific details confidential.

On the night of June 7th, the unidentified man entered the apartment at around 3 a.m. He accessed the bedroom through an exterior hallway in the residential complex. The assailant, who wore a black mask with a skull design and gloves to minimize traces, attempted to assault the woman but fled abruptly. The victim immediately informed her roommate, and they contacted the police. Despite an urgent search, the suspect was not apprehended. The investigation is being led by the Kripo’s Kommissariat 1 in Regensburg. They have publicly released a suspect description and are following up on numerous tips, although no significant leads have emerged.

DNA evidence: A breakthrough in a previous case

Investigators secured foreign DNA traces at the crime scene, which could potentially identify the perpetrator once a suspect is found. This method proved successful in a similar case in late November 2023, where a 34-year-old woman was assaulted. She fought off her attacker, leading to his capture in February through DNA and surveillance footage. The attacker, a 20-year-old Tunisian, was sentenced to two years and two months in prison.

The suspect in the June incident is still at large. He was dressed in dark clothing, wore a skull mask, and carried a bag. Witnesses who saw a suspicious male near Frankenstraße and Drehergasse in Regensburg on the night of June 6th to 7th are urged to contact the Kripo at (0941) 5062888.
