A successful small specialty company in the Stuttgart area, known as a “hidden champion,” has run into financial difficulties. The Brecht GmbH, which produces specialized metal and plastic parts, has filed for insolvency.
Hidden champion faces financial challenges
Since 1990, Brecht GmbH has been manufacturing specialized metal and plastic parts for customers in mechanical engineering, measurement technology, and more recently, medical technology. Now, as reported by the “Reutlinger Generalanzeiger,” this medium-sized company located in Wannweil, Baden-Württemberg, has encountered financial difficulties and filed for insolvency.
According to the report, “20 employees are affected by the new situation.” However, Jürgen Sulz, the lawyer appointed as insolvency administrator, told the newspaper that the company has a good reputation. Sulz expressed confidence that the business could find a buyer and continue operations permanently. He did not comment on the reasons for the company’s financial troubles.
Region known for its “hidden champions”
Brecht GmbH claims to have manufactured and delivered more than one million specialized parts since its establishment. The company is equipped with several CNC milling machines for producing metal parts and 3D printers for manufacturing plastic elements used in medical equipment.
The company’s workshop also houses a high-precision water jet cutting system, which, according to the “Reutlinger Generalanzeiger,” is possessed by only a few other companies in the region. The Stuttgart area is known for its many so-called hidden champions – small specialty firms that are among the world leaders in their fields.
