The situation surrounding Christoph Gröner’s construction group has worsened, leading to preliminary insolvency proceedings against three key companies. A creditor has filed for insolvency over unpaid social security contributions.
In Düsseldorf, preliminary insolvency proceedings have been initiated for three companies within Christoph Gröner’s corporate group. The affected companies are CG Ausbau, CG Rohbau, and CG Gebäudetechnik, all based in Leipzig and considered central to Gröner’s operations.
The insolvency proceedings for CG Ausbau and CG Gebäudetechnik were made public on the portal www.insolvenzbekanntmachungen.de on Monday. The Leipzig District Court appointed Philipp Hackländer from the Berlin law firm White & Case as the preliminary insolvency administrator. Hackländer is also expected to oversee the CG Rohbau case, according to Handelsblatt reports.
Christoph Gröner is one of Germany’s most prominent real estate entrepreneurs. Since 1995, he has built his company into a multi-billion euro group. Notable figures such as former Chancellor’s Office Chief Ronald Pofalla and former Prime Minister Günther Oettinger are among those working for Gröner.
In 2022, Gröner Group reported a profit of 7.5 million euros. However, the financial statements also revealed nearly half a billion euros in debt, with the company providing guarantees of over 430 million euros for associated enterprises.
