Activists gather for “Oil Kills” campaign

Members of the “Last Generation” climate activist group are planning to stage a new protest at Frankfurt Airport on Wednesday. The demonstration is part of their ongoing “Oil Kills” campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the environmental impact of fossil fuels. Protesters from Frankfurt, Mainz, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, Aschaffenburg, and the Rhine-Neckar region are expected to participate in the event.

According to the group’s plans, demonstrators will gather in the departure hall of one of the airport’s terminals around 3:30 PM. When contacted by t-online, the activists did not disclose which specific terminal they would target or what form the protest would take.

Previous disruptions and potential impact

This planned demonstration follows a similar action in July, when “Last Generation” activists caused significant disruptions at Frankfurt Airport. During that incident, protesters scaled fences to gain access to the airport grounds, then glued themselves to access roads leading to the tarmac and runways. As a result, airport operations were completely halted for over two hours, with disruptions continuing throughout the day.

Given the group’s history of disruptive actions, airport authorities and travelers are likely to be on high alert. While the exact nature of today’s planned protest remains unclear, it has the potential to cause delays and inconvenience for passengers using Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe’s busiest air travel hubs.
