On the evening of August 7, a 43-year-old mother and her one-year-old son were assaulted in their apartment in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde, located in the Lichtenberg district. According to police reports, the woman had a confrontation with a man she knew casually inside a high-rise apartment on Sewanstraße around 6:30 p.m. The details were released by the authorities on Thursday morning.
During the altercation, the man allegedly attacked the mother and her child, who she was holding in her arms, with a dangerous object, likely a knife, as reported by a journalist on the scene. Both the mother and the child sustained severe cuts. First responders provided immediate care, with additional medical support arriving shortly after.
Four-year-old daughter unharmed in the incident
The injured mother and child were transported to a hospital, where they were admitted for further treatment, according to the police. The woman’s four-year-old daughter was also present in the apartment during the attack but was not harmed. Photos from the scene show a police officer carrying the girl to a patrol car, after which she was handed over to the youth welfare office, as reported by the journalist.
The suspect managed to escape after the attack. A specialized police unit has begun an investigation, and officers at the scene collected evidence, which was secured in a police vehicle.
