A bomb threat disrupted an Indian flight bound for Germany. The aircraft was diverted to an airport in eastern Turkey, where all passengers and crew were safely evacuated.
An alarming situation unfolded on Friday when a bomb threat was discovered aboard an Indian passenger plane en route to Germany. The threat, reportedly written on a piece of toilet paper, forced the aircraft to divert to an airport in eastern Turkey. This information was reported by the Turkish state broadcaster TRT.
According to the airline, the Vistara flight, traveling from Mumbai to Frankfurt, safely landed in the eastern province of Erzurum on Friday afternoon. Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that all 237 passengers and 14 crew members were evacuated from the aircraft.
Investigation underway
The city’s airspace was closed to air traffic and a state of emergency was declared, TRT reported, citing Erzurum Governor Mustafa Ciftci. According to Ciftci, a passenger handed a piece of toilet paper with the inscription “Bomb on the plane” to the cabin crew.
Initially, no further information was available regarding the gender or age of the passenger, or the results of the searches of passengers, luggage, and the aircraft. The incident has prompted a thorough investigation by local authorities to ensure the safety of all involved and to determine the credibility of the threat.
