The one-way traffic experiment continues as Cologne introduces new seating options for testing, with citizens invited to provide online feedback.
Cologne is actively involving its citizens in the redevelopment of Venloer Straße. Starting August 29, the city will launch the next phase of public participation, asking everyone who uses Venloer Straße for feedback on its future design.
From mid-August, initial ideas will be tested, including the installation of seating areas beginning on August 15 at various locations. These “resting oases” will later be enhanced with greenery. A planting event is scheduled for Friday, August 16, at 3 p.m., with the meeting point at the Venloer Straße/Geisselstraße intersection. No registration is required, but participants are encouraged to bring gardening tools.
In addition, starting August 29, various ideas for the future spatial arrangement will be made visually accessible through online videos.
Walks for interested citizens
The online feedback portal will be open from August 29 until September 19, allowing citizens to share their thoughts. Alongside the digital voting, Cologne invites all interested citizens to join street walks with the city’s innovation office, the public participation office, and urban planners between late August and early September. Details on these walks and how to register will be available on the participation portal from mid-August 2024.
The feedback collected from these initiatives will be included in the city’s final proposal for the future design of Venloer Straße, which will be discussed by the Ehrenfeld district council at the end of 2024.
Since October 23 of last year, Venloer Straße has been a one-way street between Ehrenfeldgürtel and the Piusstraße/Franz-Geuer-Straße intersection, with a speed limit of 30 km/h. The aim is to make the street safer, especially for pedestrians and cyclists. The one-way regulation is part of an ongoing traffic experiment.
