In Rodenkirchen, Cologne, residents are being evacuated after a World War II bomb was found at a construction site. This discovery has impacted local bus and train services.
On Monday evening, a WWII bomb was uncovered in Cologne-Rodenkirchen, according to a report by t-online.de. Radio Köln was the first to report the find, and authorities have announced plans to defuse the bomb on Tuesday. The explosive was discovered during construction work on Adamstraße, near the old Kronenberg site.
The city of Cologne stated that the evacuation radius is 500 meters, affecting approximately 6,000 people. The evacuation zone includes two senior centers and two hospitals. As a result, bus and tram services operated by KVB in the area are also disrupted.
The city has set up a temporary shelter at Rodenkirchen Gymnasium, located at Sürther Straße 55. Residents are advised that pets can only be brought into the school’s gymnasium if they are in transport boxes.
