A violent incident at a Kreuzberg wedding left one man dead and another injured, leading to a trial now set to begin.
Today, August 8, the trial of a 30-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a 29-year-old guest at a wedding will commence at the Berlin Regional Court. The incident occurred on December 29 last year in a venue in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district, as reported by t-online.de.
Jealousy leads to violence
Investigations revealed that the accused believed the victim was his wife’s lover. In the days leading up to the incident, he allegedly strangled and beat his wife over the suspected affair. He is also accused of coercing her into making false accusations against the 29-year-old.
At the wedding, the situation escalated. The 30-year-old first attempted to engage the other guest in a private conversation. When the guest refused, the accused allegedly threw a glass at him. He then pulled out a knife, first injuring a 25-year-old mediator in the thigh before stabbing his perceived rival in the left chest, causing fatal injuries.
The prosecution has charged the 30-year-old with manslaughter, dangerous bodily harm, and coercion. The trial is scheduled for nine days of hearings.
