A student was severely wounded in a knife attack at a school in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, requiring emergency airlift to a hospital. The incident occurred in the town of Ettenheim, with police quickly apprehending the teenage suspect without resistance.
The stabbing took place around 10:40 AM on Tuesday at a school in Ettenheim, a town of 14,000 residents. According to a police spokesperson who spoke to t-online, the victim’s injuries were life-threatening, necessitating helicopter transport to a hospital. Police confirmed that no other students were involved in the incident. The school, located on Bienlestrasse, was closed for the remainder of the day, with a police spokesperson explaining, “Normal classes were unthinkable under these circumstances.” Students were sent home, though on-site support was made available.
Echoes of previous school violence
This incident evokes memories of a fatal shooting in nearby Offenburg last November, where a student shot and killed a 15-year-old classmate at the Waldbach special education school. The 16-year-old perpetrator was sentenced to eight years and nine months in juvenile detention for murder this July. Additionally, the shooter’s parents face charges of negligent homicide and violations of weapons laws. Prosecutors stated that the pistol used in the shooting was illegally in the parents’ possession and insufficiently secured, allowing their son access to the weapon.
